| Review: Stay away from this place, unless you look forward to paying back student loans in excess of $50,000, and maybe you still won't be employable as a court reporter. I was attracted to this school because they offered a 2 year program. I didn't realize at the time that this was practically impossible, but I reasoned that since this school had been around since 1940, they should know how long it takes to train court reporters. I spent two years here for a total cost of $28,000 because I had signed a two year commitment. If the value of the education was commensurate with what I paid, maybe I wouldn't be writing a negative review. In short, with a few exceptions, the teachers give you the bare minimum, writing time per day is extremely limited, feedback and/or practice tips are all but non-existent, and they are only too happy to keep that financial aid rolling. At one point I was saddled with an incompetent teacher in my 160 class for 3 months before she was terminated....meanwhile, that tuition clock was still ticking and my progress wasn't just stuck, it was going backward. Now I am happily enrolled in the Simply Steno Program, where I decided to drop back in speed to clean up my writing because the motto at the Stenotype Institute of JAX is if you can read your garbage, you're good to go! Nothing like the pursuite of excellence! In the short time I have been with Simply Steno, I have received more timely feedback and motivation from people I've never met than what I experienced at Stenotype Institute. If you live in the Jacksonville, Florida, area and are tempted by this school's commercials, don't walk, RUN!!!! There are much better and cheaper alternatives out there!! |
